Monsoon Prayers

Monsoon Prayers
by: GinaMarie
clouds dim
the bright sunlight
preparing for
a solemn summertime ritual

flickering candles of lightning
flash
through the sky

thunder tolls the bell
calling all beings to worship

plants stretch their arms toward heaven
pulling sustenance down to earth

a chorus of watery spheres
chant a pattering of
silvery
voiced
hymns

accompanied by the humming flow
of wind
wending its way through
the rain
slicked
air

trees weep for joy
as water streams from the sky

soil hungrily sighs
in gulping mouthfuls
of raindrops

flowers tip their heads back
to let great torrents
wash dusty
drought
from their faces

rocks settle in more firmly
scrunching further
into the
rejoicing
earth

The Emperor’s New Clothes
The Professor's New Clothes (or reflections on a Lecture)

sitting
seriously
studiously
young
bright eyes, minds
looking to change the world

sitting
seriously
studiously
old
bright eyes, minds
looking to understand the world

standing
seriously
sanctimoniously
enraptured by his own
self-importance

Transubstantiation

Transubstantiation

Forgive me father, for I have sinned

What is sin but an act of unsacredness towards another

Hail Mary, full of grace
How can I ask for absolution
when there is no guilt inside

I've rent my clothes
I've cried many tears
Sackcloth and ashes
are the garments you wish me to wear

But I have no other pennance
I can do
that will make you realize
the pain that has been dealt to you
has been your own doing

You won't be free until you release me

So drive the wooden stake
deep
through my heart
Put to death the thing
that is
tearing out your own

Exorcise the demon
that possesses your thoughts
Free the phantom that haunts
your every dream

I won't be free until you forgive yourself

SIREN

SIREN

Sun glints off her hair
drawing my eyes continuously back to her
Her laughter wraps around my chest
making me catch my breath
Her eyes sparkle with some unshared
secret
passion
squeezing an extra beat from my heart

Her hands
soft
cool
soothing
slide along my arm
caressing goose bumps to the surface
not knowing the response she elicits

Her magic envelopes
entrances
engulfs
me
leaving me
gasping
for air

longing
for my next encounter

wondering
if she is only
a
flight
of figment
fancy
