Loki

Loki

He rained ice upon the world
promising promises of unspeakable delight
And utter fulfillment

Beguiling
Bewildering
Captivating

Pilfering the very breath from my bones
Freezing the marrow of my soul
Hurling my blood into roiling, wanton anticipation

Confounding desire and duty into a
bubbling morass of frenzied darkness

Burning a memory into my psyche
Of dreams hoped for
Reached for
Dashed against the rocky shore of that which couldn’t be

Faltering
Stumbling
Stopping

The ice melted
And ran in torrential rivulets
Leaving behind only the remnants of a Bacchus-filled whirlwind
Of frostbitten memory
