The Persistence of Time (and other love songs)

Notes: In my mind, I hear this as a lullaby.  Once I hear more of it, it will be played and recorded. Thank you, Ni-Cara, for the title!-gmh

Slowly   slowly   slowly
ever so softly goes the time
Stretching across the distance

until I have nothing left to give
nothing left to hide

The smell of rain
   fills the olfactory nerves
making the world fill with
the musty dusty smell of
   dirt and wet concrete

Flowers grow until they fade
   then seed, die, rebirth
  sharing their bounty in
the cycle of life

Wheels roll ever onward
until there is no more ground
on which to roll
 And then they rocket
onto the sky, the moon,
the stars, the universe
leaving all else in its wake.

Leaving everything behind
in search for the ultimate
             question

Then the bowl tips
         the water spills
       and it all begins again
